PlayStation Plus gamers furious over surprise PS5 remaster

Not the surprise they wanted

Having been surprised with a PlayStation 5 remaster few expected, PlayStation Plus users feel the announcement has been soured by Sony’s choices.

At PlayStation’s State of Play, a remaster for Days Gone was announced.

The fact that this title has been chosen for a remaster over the likes of Bloodborne has not been lost on anyone.

Still, while some of us are in disbelief that this game is getting remastered, the feedback has been quite positive.

That is, it was until PlayStation Plus users realised they would have to purchase the upgrade despite having downloaded the game when it was available via the subscription.

As shared by kabirsingh84 on r/PlayStationPlus, “Game redemptions via PS Plus are not eligible for the $10 upgrade to the remastered version on PS5.”

In case you’re unaware, those who already have the game would only need to pay a $10 upgrade to the remastered version rather than the full price.

Unfortunately, that only stands if you own a digital or physical copy of the title; PS Plus doesn’t count.

As you can understand and perhaps appreciate, this has put gamers off from playing Days Gone Remastered.

“They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible, even if most didn’t want to play it they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two,” argued squarejellyfish_.

User IssueEmbarrassed8103 added, “Oh yeah, I was going to buy the upgrade. Definitely not buying the game plus upgrade.”

When one gamer challenged these complaints by suggesting that Sony knows best, The_Freshmaker remarked on how “weird” it is that Sony picked this game to add this fine print detail.

“Just weird they're doing it with this one when they didn't with TLOU or Horizon Remasters. I was going to buy this too just because their remasters look good but now no thanks, I'll wait till they give it to me in a year,” they said.

Surprises are all well and good until they turn nasty, and for a lot of PS Plus users, it’s just turned nasty.
