Counting down to the release of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake is like watching the sand fall in a cursed hourglass. Every time you near the end, someone flips it over and the countdown begins all over again. Sigh.
Things sure seem set to carry on that way. Originally announced back in 2020, the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was due to release in early 2020 but clearly that didn’t happen. The game was delayed to later in the year and then delayed again to an unspecified date in 2022. To say it’s been a rocky ride would be an understatement, and I bet you can tell what’s coming next can’t you?
Take a look at the somewhat questionable Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake reveal trailer below.
You got it! The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake has been delayed yet again except this time, it’s delayed indefinitely. All we know is that Ubisoft is “no longer targeting a FY23 release,” with FY23 referring to the fiscal year which runs until March 2023. This means that the remake is now expected to release in late 2023 or beyond.
Advert
Ubisoft were forced to confirm the news after a number of retailers delisted pre-orders of the game from their websites, prompting those who had (rather optimistically) pre-ordered the game to be informed that they would need to contact their chosen retailer for a refund. Naturally, people assumed that the game was therefore cancelled before Ubisoft put that panic to rest.
In a statement provided to IGN, Ubisoft said, “The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montréal. We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montréal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake. As a consequence, we are no longer targeting a FY23 release anymore and the game has been delisted. If players wish to cancel their pre-order, they are invited to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as the development is moving along.”
The delays all stem from an issue with quality. Fans slated the visuals of the 2020 reveal trailer hence why development was passed over to Ubisoft Montréal who created the original game. As such, we’ve got high hopes that they can make Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time the dazzling remake it should be but this sticky saga has plenty of time for a few more bumps in the road.
