The long-awaited remake of Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time is alive and well, which is brilliant news for anyone who started to fear the project was dead and buried. Unfortunately, we're in for a long wait.
The remake of the beloved 2003 adventure game was first announced way back in 2020 to less than stellar reception. Since then there have been multiple reports of a troubled development process that has gone back to the drawing board.
Fortunately, it looks like things may well be back on track. Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time was reannounced with an incredible brief teaser during Ubisoft's special Summer Games Fest event alongside a 2026 release window.

Okay, so we're in for a long-ass wait. But that 2026 release window paired with a clip that showed precisely zero gameplay suggests to me Ubisoft is aware it messed up and announced the game way too early. Here's hoping the classic can now get the time and attention it deserves.
As reported by Push Square last May, the project had returned to the “conception” phase, which is very much not a good thing. The remake also switched developers the previous year. Turbulent doesn't begin to describe this game's development.
Ubisoft wrote in a statement at the time: “The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montréal. We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montréal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake.”
I guess congratulations to Ubisoft for confirming the first video game of 2026?
