A brand new “turn-based volleyball RPG” with monster-collecting elements is giving some fans serious Pokémon vibes.
Beastieball dropped on Steam a couple of days ago, and it’s already managed to garner a “Very Positive” score with over 70 reviews - 100% of which are positive.
The game is the third title to be developed by Wishes Unlimited Games, having previously worked on both Chicory: A Colorful Tale and Wandersong.

Side note, I’ve played both of those and they are bangers, so I will now have my eye on Wishes Unlimited Games if they’re going to be this consistent with the quality of their games.
In Beastieball, according to the Steam description, you will “Explore an open world and meet a diverse cast of Ranked coaches, each with their own story. You'll have to defeat them and raise your ranking if you want to compete in the CROWN SERIES.”
A review from Matt Murray over on What’s Wrong With Wolfie? Was also extremely complimentary about the game’s Pokémon comparisons, stating that “Beastieball is not only the best Pokémon-inspired game I’ve ever played, but it also has a better fundamental understanding of the things I used to love about Pokémon than, well, Pokémon.”
Seems like Pokémon isn’t the only thing that potentially influenced Beastieball though, as the description also implies that there’s a little bit of Mega Man influence at play with its boss battle system.

“Bosses are all revealed on your map from the start and can be defeated in any order. With each one you defeat, the others become stronger, so no matter which way you go you'll have a tough and exciting rise to the top.”
If you’re interested in giving it a go, the game is currently 10% off to celebrate its release - so jump in early if you want to save a couple of bucks.
