While several games don't see the light of day, sometimes due to the cost of making them, sometimes due to the greed of corporate executives, and some games just don't see the light of day for reasons that are unclear. Now, however, a survival-horror title that was originally supposed to be released on the PlayStation 4 as a console exclusive is seeing the light of day on the new-gen PlayStation, albeit with the caveat that it is also being released on the Nintendo Switch.
In 2014, survival-horror title DreadOut was supposed to be released on PlayStation 4, after being originally released on PC. It's unclear exactly why the console port of the game was cancelled, but cancelled it was, and the game remained exclusive to PC platforms for years. Now, however, the game is being released on PlayStation 5 in the form of a new remaster that is also available on Nintendo Switch. The DreadOut Remastered Collection has been announced by Soft Source Publishing and Digital Happiness, and includes both the original 2014 game that was never previously available on consoles, but a brand new game named DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark.
"DreadOut is a third person supernatural horror game where you play as Linda, a high school student trapped in an old abandoned town. Equipped with her trusty smart-phone and an SLR camera, she will battle against terrifying encounters and solve mysterious puzzles which will ultimately determine her fate... it all comes down to Linda. She will experience stirrings of unfamiliar powers, emerging from within her. These new found abilities might just be the only way she can save her own life and those of her friends," the official description for the collection reads.
