PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has said that he’s ‘pretty sure’ that Call of Duty will remain available on the console. You’re not filling me with much confidence there, Jim.
Microsoft is currently in the midst of trying to acquire Activision Blizzard in a historic $68.7 billion deal. It’s been no easy task though. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has already blocked the deal. Without a successful appeal, Microsoft won’t be able to propose the deal in the UK for a further 10 years. Now, the deal has been hit by an injunction thanks to the US’ Federal Trade Commission (FTC). If the deal was to go through, regulators are concerned about Microsoft’s monopoly on cloud gaming as well as the future availability of Call of Duty.
Microsoft has tried to assure regulators that they wouldn’t make Call of Duty an Xbox exclusive, instead extending 10 year access deals to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. During the ongoing trial though, the FTC referenced the fact that shortly after buying ZeniMax, Microsoft made both Redfall and Starfield Xbox exclusives. Now, an email written by PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has been offered as evidence and it seems to imply that PlayStation are somewhat confident they’ll retain access.

As reported by IGN, Ryan wrote, “I’m pretty sure we will continue to see Call of Duty on PlayStation for many years to come.” The email was viewed by reporter Rebekah Valentine amid the ongoing court case. “It’s not an Xbox exclusivity play at all,” Ryan continued. “They’re thinking bigger than that, and they have the cash to make moves like this. I’ve spent a fair bit of time with both Phil [Spencer] and Bobby [Kotick] over the past day. I’m pretty sure we will continue to see COD on PS for many years to come.”
“We have some good stuff cooking. Keep your eyes peeled. I’m not complacent and I’d rather this hadn’t happened, but we’ll be OK, more than OK.” The trial continues.
