It won't have escaped your attention that the PlayStation 5 is a real chungus. A hefty lad. A big boy. A whopping great plumpster.
We understand why Sony's new-gen console is so comically large, of course: there's a lot going on there. Between all the new-gen bells and whistles, plus the need to make sure the thing stays cool while it's powering games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and one of the other three PlayStation 5-exclusive games that have actually been released in the last two years, it need the room.
But does it need that much room? That's not for me to say, but there are definitely those who feel the PlayStation 5 doesn't need to be quite as large as it is.

There are rumours that Sony is currently working on an enhanced PlayStation 5 Pro model that, if anything, sounds even more powerful - and will likely be even bigger.
What about those of us who miss that corner of our living room that's now dominated by a chunky white monolith? Won't somebody help us and offer up a smaller model, already?
YouTuber DIY Perks has heard these cries, and has challenged himself to make the smallest PlayStation 5 possible.
Proudly claiming to have built the "world's first PlayStation 5 Slim", DIY Perks has rather remarkably managed to cram everything that makes the PS5 what it is into a ridiculously small case that's just 2cm in height. Take a look at the building process below!
DIY Perks has made use of some really clever tricks to get the PS5 guts into such a wee case, obviously. Most notably, he stripped away most of the console's sizeable cooling systems in favour of a new, external water system that he rigs up to a power brick that's much easier to keep out of sight.

Whether or not that's cheating is up to you, but as far as I'm concerned he achieved what he set out to do. The console itself is, undeniably, a much slimmer model. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it meant I could have a PS5 that didn't take up 50% of my TV stand.
