It's not long until the PlayStation 5 Slim launch and Sony are gearing up to the date of the new console. However, as usually happens, a leak has shown the new device next to the previous console to show off the size difference.
The new console, scheduled to launch this month, is shown to be a few inches smaller than the original PS5, when stood vertically. It also tapers in towards the centre of the unit.
The PlayStation 5 Slim will feature a removable disc drive
First uploaded to Twitter by a user called @phantompainss the images showed the two consoles side-by-side. The slim is noticeably smaller, but it might surprise people that it's not as apparent as previous slim console iterations from Sony.

The images were swiftly removed from Twitter, quite likely due to a DMCA strike from Sony, but many users were able to grab the images before they disappeared. The console will feature the same functionality as the standard PS5 with two USB ports, an Ethernet socket and an HDMI port.
Interestingly, the images seemed to confirm that the disc drive will need an internet connection during initial setup, as one image showed a message on screen saying "Can't use your disc drive. You need to connect your PS5 to the network to register your disc drive to your PS5."
Streamlined slim consoles have been part of Sony's repertoire since the original PlayStation and is always an expected release. Conversation is currently swirling as to whether we will see a PS5 Pro model - an upgraded version of the console - as we saw with the PS4.
The PS5 has been shifting a vast number of units worldwide and will likely see a bump in sales due to the Slim. Both a digital version and a disc version will release later this month.
