One day, we’ll look at our Xbox Series X/S and remember when a console was necessary in order to play games.
Such a remark used to sound like a far-fetched scenario, yet now it’s becoming increasingly likely as Xbox pushes ahead with major changes.

Although intended to demonstrate the versatility of Xbox, it ended up getting roasted by fans, not least of all because it seemed to make the console somewhat obsolete.
Fast forward to this month, and an announcement has been made that further reinforces fears that the console is on its way out.
Before you go, take a look at this new piece of Xbox hardware.
As part of its new partnership with LG, the Xbox app will be added to LG's smart TVs.

This means that those without a console will be able to purchase Xbox Game Pass and access hundreds of titles.
All that’s needed is membership and a controller that connects to your television.
Only “select LG Smart TVs” will be capable of this, undoubtedly the newer models that have been released.
Despite this announcement being made, there’s still no specifics on when the app will launch.

This update comes at a time when fans are struggling to come to terms with the “corny” name of the next generation Xbox.
As this is a leak that’s yet to be confirmed to be true, said name might be garnering backlash for no good reason.
Still, the fact that fans believe Microsoft would do something so questionable emphasises how little faith they have in the publisher.
Undoubtedly, some will welcome being able to game without a console – it opens up the community to those typically priced out.

On the flip side of this, it feels like the foundation of traditional gaming is being chipped away, which is difficult for veteran gamers to comprehend.
