One of 2024’s biggest games skipped out on an Xbox release according to the Xbox Series S’ underwhelming specs, according to the developer’s CEO.
As seemingly first noticed on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, Game Science’s CEO Feng Ji (better known as “Yocar” to most folks) recently revealed on the Chinese social media site Weibo that Black Myth: Wukong didn’t see an Xbox port due to optimisation issues for the Xbox Series S.
“Although there were no big surprises,” Feng Ji said in reply to some of the Steam awards the title won in the recent 2024 Steam Awards, “I still felt a little emotional after winning all of them.”

“Everyone's fighting power is so terrifying, but the only thing missing is the XBOX robe... It seems a bit wrong (but that 10GB shared memory, it is really impossible to get it without a few years of optimization experience)...”
That “10GB shared memory” bit is in reference to the Xbox Series S’ 10GB of RAM. For comparison, the base model of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X both have 16GB of RAM.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of the Xbox Series S causing problems for devs, but to be fair to Microsoft… this one might not entirely be on them.
It’s no secret that the PlayStation 5 port of Black Myth: Wukong was an absolute mess, especially at launch, so it’s more than fair to assume that even the Xbox Series X port of the game would have shared a similar fate.

Still, at least there might actually be an Xbox port of Black Myth: Wukong to criticise if the Xbox Series S wasn’t on the scene.
Maybe folks on Xbox can finally play the game when the next generation of Xbox consoles comes out in roughly 3-5 years.
