News of Microsoft attending a “future of gaming handhelds” panel, next month, has increased the likelihood that we’ll see their next console enters into the handheld space.
Does this confirm what we all suspect? Is Microsoft creating a handheld console to accompany their home consoles, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S?
Everything is an Xbox. Does this mean that Xbox is targetting a handheld next?
According to reports from Tom Warren, industry insider, Microsoft’s VP of Next Generation, Jason Ronald, will be attending the “future of gaming handhelds” event as a guest of Lenovo.

Lenovo is due to unveil their own handheld, the Legion Go, which features a SteamOS, perfect for those who want more choice for their Steam catalogue.
This might not be at all relevant to the future of Microsoft, but we can’t help being excited at the prospect of the handheld market seeing more competition.
After all, with the release of the Steam Deck, more and more players are looking to play games with more freedom, whether that’s out of the house, or on the toilet (we see you).
Microsoft has been teasing the possibility of a handheld console for weeks, with Phil Spencer mentioning that the company is looking into options.

He did give a word of caution, saying that it wouldn’t be for some time.
Perhaps Jason Ronald is there simply as a guest to promote Xbox Game Pass, while also doing some scouting for teams to work with.
Jason Ronald plays a huge part in the future of Xbox and was a key figure in the creation and launch of the Series consoles of this generation.
Though, with confirmation that Xbox has an eye on the handheld market, really anything could be happening at that Lenovo panel.

We’re trying to keep our hopes low, but the idea of the handheld market finally getting some competition means good things are on the way.
