Starfield drops major free update alongside new expansion

Download the update before diving in

Rejoice, Starfield fans. The game’s long-awaited first expansion, Shattered Space, is available now.

You may have noticed that you’re unable to find any Shattered Space reviews online.

Well, that’s because media and creators were not granted access to the DLC ahead of its release, but worry not.

Here at GAMINGbible, we’ve begun our playthrough and will share our thoughts with you as soon as they’re ready.

Shattered Space takes players to Va’ruun’kai, the home planet of the mysterious House Va’ruun.

For generations, this planet has remained inaccessible. Those who live there haven’t seen an outsider in generations. That is, of course, until you show up.

Alongside the launch of the expansion, Bethesda has released a chunky new Starfield update which implements a wide array of welcomed changes across the game.

You can take a look at Shattered Space in action below.

Let’s start with the creation kit. The automated process used to create models for Distant LOD is now available following the update.

In terms of general fixes, devs have resolved an issue that limited the number of loaded creations to 255, improved player headtracking when exiting dialogue, and rid the game of camera jostling while characters are jumping.

This is in addition to a number of lightning enhancements, visual improvements, and minor stability fixes.

As for gameplay, the Annihilator Particle Beam damage-over-time effect no longer affects Companions, and Robots and Turrets will now take damage from EM weapons.

In the Ship Builder, a new option has been added to the game settings to allow for toggling Flip Merge behaviour use while land vehicles now consistently display name plates and health bars.

There are plenty of other location, quest, and UI based improvements you can read about in the full patch notes.

The update is downloadable now for free. Shattered Space will set you back £29.99 on Xbox or £25.99 on PC, or it’s free if you previously bought the Premium Edition of the game.
