As each new console generation arrives we are arguably blessed with even better video games that came before whether our focus is on gameplay, graphics, storytelling and everything in between, especially when powered by the almighty Unreal Engine 5.
Sure, utilising Unreal Engine 5 does not guarantee success, far from it, because you of course need the required skills to bring any would-be project to life. To paraphrase the great Winston Zeddemore, “If you have the tools, you have the talent”, hopefully.
Check out the Chasmal Fear trailer below!
As reported by DSOGaming, a group of developers that look to have the talent is those of the indie studio MystiveDev. Well, when I say “a group of talented developers” I mean just two. Yes, I said two. The game in question is a horror title called Chasmal Fear which looks like a blend of Dead Space and the first-person classic from Monolith Productions, F.E.A.R.
Advert
Chasmal Fear is said to be a story-driven first-person horror that adopts the current trend of being from a body-cam perspective. It looks fantastic and could be a treat for horror fans. However, I hope the body-cam perspective is optional because it’s likely to give me motion sickness. The story of Chasmal Fear takes place in a claustrophobic underwater facility with your choices said to have an impact on its conclusion. In total, Chasmal Fear will have three different endings.
What’s more, Chasmal Fear will have randomised scares, monster and puzzle locations making each playthrough a little different from the last. It will also be playable in co-op (not the supermarket chain) with a friend. Whether this co-op element numbs the horror experience as it did with Dead Space 3 remains to be seen. I’ll have my fingers crossed that it won't hurt the tensions. Judging by the gameplay trailer and the details we know of so far, Chasmal Fear looks to be a very promising indie horror and it’s even more impressive when it's being developed by just two people.
At the time of writing, Chasmal Fear does not have a release date but it is expected to launch on PC and a playabe demo is said to be on the way. Hopefully, if the game proves to be a success, it will get a console release.
