Some absolutely madman hasn’t just remade Skyrim in Unreal Engine 5, they’ve ported all of the original game’s vanilla assets into the engine too.
Mods and Bethesda games go together like peanut butter and jam, but what we have for you today isn’t a mod - it’s a straight-up remake.
This project was put together by the immensely talented Greg Coulthard, who you might have heard of before considering he already developed a similar project for Oblivion.

This time however, he’s decided to tackle the gargantuan task of remaking Skyrim in Unreal Engine 5. But how exactly did he pull something like this off?
“I'm happy to announce that my personal project to import Skyrim into Unreal Engine 5 is finally complete,” Coulthard reveals.
“All assets are Vanilla. My goal wasn't to upgrade graphics (other modders do this better), but to be able to read Skyrim's ESM data file thanks to a C++ plugin I developed to automatize landscape generation & object placement. Assets had to be imported manually however.”
I think it’s pretty fair to say that his work looks absolutely incredible, and the folks in the comments seem to agree.

“If we can port over the mods as well, eventually... you're a hero,” commented user @ChosenSquirrel.
“This will probably run better, and be far more stable ... Also wont need to worry about LOD moding and stuff which is probably the most painful part. Hope it can happen.”
“This is really cool. Being able to take all the assets and render them in this engine sounds like you have just made possible a super ripe collection of mods and adapted gameplay,” replied user @Chris-re3lv.
“It looks beautiful like this, and I bet if someone could adapt the full gameplay elements (shedding the old engine entirely), it would run pretty well.”

Here’s hoping The Elder Scrolls VI looks even 50% as good as this.
