It’s Thursday, which means the weekend is rapidly approaching.
You may find yourself catching up on October’s various releases. After all, it was a banger month.
From Dragon Age: The Veilguard to Life is Strange: Double Exposure, October provided a little treat for practically every taste going.

If you do find yourself yearning for something new though, I may have just the thing.
You see, a new free-to-play MMORPG has launched on Steam and best of all, it comes from one of the lead creators of RuneScape.
The game in question is Brighter Shores from renowned developer Andrew Gower.
Take a look at Brighter Shores in action below.
Gower already struck gold once with RuneScape. Could he do it again with Brighter Shores?

Well, perhaps not. The game is off to a rocky start with the Steam reviews currently sitting at ‘mixed’, but it’s early days - and it’s clear that Brighter Shores is packed with potential.
This is a point-and-click style RPG set in a fantasy world that promises hundreds of hours of content.
“As the newest recruit in the Hopeport town guard, you are looking to make a name for yourself. This soon turns out to be a more challenging role than you had anticipated, with a strange storm raging over the harbour and unrest from the local goblins,” the synopsis teases.
“You will discover powerful magic sources and become one of the legendary classes of old: Cryoknight, Guardian or Hammermage. Which is fortunate, because something is corrupting the deepest reaches of the nearby Hopeforest, and only through the strength of your new-found powers will you be able to deal with it.”

You can pick from a number of professions, encounter a wide array of fantastical creatures, all whilst experiencing a thrilling new story.
As I said, the game is free-to-play, although there is a paid premium pass available granting you access to bonus lands - the Mine of Mantuban and Crenopolis.
“Do you remember the first time you played RuneScape? A world full of things you didn't understand, and nothing made sense? The camera controls were confusing, but you knew there was a ton of cool stuff to discover? This is how playing Brighter Shores feels,” one reviewer wrote.
“It is an amazing breath of fresh air, and I have no idea what's going on. My curiosity is piqued around every corner. It's fun,” they continued.

“Only a couple of hours in and I am really enjoying this so far. It's nice to be able to create more than one character on your account, there is some Gower humor in the dialogue and it's a nice familiar feeling environment,” said another.
Despite that mixed rating, which is mainly down to criticisms over the levelling up system, I’d say that Brighter Shores is certainly worth a go.
