Another free Steam game is on the horizon, and this one is a nautical adventure taking inspiration from Sea of Thieves and Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.
Plenty of free Steam games are up for grabs right now, and there’s likely plenty more to come if none have caught your eye just yet. That might change though with Captain Bones, an open-world pirate game which combines aspects from Sea of Thieves, Ubisoft’s best Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and even a little bit of Raft.
Speaking of AC, take a look at the latest trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage below.
The game’s Steam description reads: “Captain Bones is an action-adventure game set in an open pirate world. You must have survival skills to make ship battles and treasure hunts with your crew.” The story follows Captain Bones gallivanting around the world and getting into trouble thanks to an unshakeable curse, which apparently regularly lands him in difficult situations.

Gameplay showcases sailing the seas, getting into skirmishes with naval troops and getting marooned on an island. It also saw him briefly turning into a skeleton like Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. Featuring several explorable locations, including deserted islands and underwater areas, intense land and sea combat encounters and crafting, which lets you build rafts and other vehicles, the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag inspiration is clear to see.
World of Poly, the game’s developer, also regularly updates the title with new patches, which update character models, the game’s visual fidelity and a range of other improvements.
The prologue for Captain Bones is available on Steam right now, giving you a taste of what you can expect from the full game. The download is free for all users.
