If you’re looking for something fun to play on Steam, you may want to check out Head 2 Head. The fighting game, which is currently free-to-play, will soon be ending its early access period. When it relaunches in full, it’ll do so with a brand new price tag.
If you download the game now though, you’ll retain free access following the relaunch. Developed and published by ArcForged, Head 2 Head first entered early access in 2021. Two years on, devs have finally ironed out all the creases with the game garnering ‘Very Positive’ reviews from fans. The synopsis reads, “Head 2 Head is a one of a kind fighting game experience. You fight through a gauntlet of enemies, using ALL HEAD JUTSU to prove that you are the best. Collect Skulls and Roguelike stat buffs each time you defeat an enemy to get further along the road to becoming the HEAD MASTER.”

Head 2 Head is due to land on Nintendo Switch further down the line. When the game does launch in full, it’ll cost $14.99 on both Switch and Steam, so it’s well worth picking up for free now while you can. The game boasts a very fun 2.5D art style, and you can join online versus modes if you want to prove your skills against other players.

Head 2 Head features a “deep and intuitive fighting system that doesn’t require any complex inputs”. It claims to be easy for beginners which is great news if you’re not particularly well versed in fighting games. One Steam review reads, “Easy to learn, hard to master gameplay, great music and a colour scheme that's easy to look at. It's really fun to play around with, I recommend.”
Another player wrote, “Head 2 Head is an amazing game. With just a few simple design decisions, they've distilled a fighter down to its barest essence, and it works SO well. The combat is responsive, fun, simple to learn, but hard to master. The AI in Survival is also plenty challenging for a newbie like me without being overwhelming. While meant to be a single player experience, the addition of rollback multiplayer later will make sure this game has longevity,” while someone added, “As for someone that struggles to get into 2D fighters, this game is a good start.” Grab it while you can.
