I admire anyone who considers themselves a horror aficionado. While I dabble in the genre from time to time, I’d still very much class myself as a scaredy cat. If you’re braver than me though and happen to be craving a brand new survival horror experience that’ll leave you feeling thoroughly spooked, you may want to take a look at Panicore.
Developed by ZTEK Studio, Panicore is giving us major Resident Evil vibes by which I mean you’re going to find yourself in a durgy, mysterious location, hunted by an array of terrifying monsters. In Panicore, you’ll assume the role of an urban explorer drawn to “dangerously abandoned places”. In the latest instance, our protagonist is warned against visiting this particular locale by local authorities … they should’ve listened. We find ourselves trapped inside a derelict building with “unknown forces” blocking our way out. Using co-op gameplay, the various explorers must find a way out as the realisation dawns that they’re not in this building alone.
Take a look at Panicore in action below.
It’s a solid and intriguing premise. As I mentioned, Panicore utilises co-op gameplay so you can team up with your friends. According to the description, players must “use all their bravery to solve puzzles, navigate the dangerous corridors and outwit the monster that wants to trap them in its evil clutches while time is of the essence.” There are multiple escape routes but allow me to warn you, the AI-driven monster can reportedly “hear your every step”. Chilling.

You don’t have to co-op the game either. You can tackle this challenge alone. The developers have referred to the game as “immersive hide and seek” which sounds like, if you’re feeling devilish, there’ll be an opportunity to sabotage your friends.
While we’re still awaiting a release date for Panicore, you can actually sample the game now thanks to a free demo over on Steam. It looks as if Panicore will be PC only but who knows what it’s future holds if it accrues a solid player base.
