I'm a simple man. If I see a game with pixel art, I'm almost certainly going to buy it. I don't even care if it's any good at this point, I just like looking at the retro aesthetic and trying to remember a time before I knew what Sertraline was.
That's why I'm delighted, dear reader, to point you in the direction of a Steam RPG that might have slipped under your radar. Better yet, you can actually try it out for free. It's a real win-win situation.
Speaking of great RPGs, take a look at our 10/10 review of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth below!
Secrets Of Grindea launched last week after a lengthy development period, and already has rave reviews from Steam users. At the time of writing the retro-inspired RPG has a rating of 9/10, which certainly isn't to be sniffed out.

"The wait is over, and boy was it worth it," reads one Steam review. "Great game with a story mode and fantastic rogue like mode."
Another added: "Even though the game's developers had been working on it for more than ten years, you could track their development process every week on their fantastic blog. I hope that other indie developers will follow this example. I played the early access version a few years back and it was already an amazing game, cannot wait to finish full version."
The influences here are clear. There are elements of The Legend Of Zelda and the Mana games, and, much in the same way 2023 indie banger Sea Of Stars took its inspirations and remixed them into something new, Secrets Of Grindea aims to tell a story that feels familiar but plays fresh. Better yet, Secrets Of Grindea has co-op multiplayer for up to four players, so you can enjoy old school fun with friends.
There's a free demo for Secrets Of Grindea which you can check out now, and if you decide it's your cup of tea, you can pick it up for less than a tenner (it's currently on sale).
