I’ve always enjoyed a good mystery,
Growing up, I’d avidly watch any Scooby-Doo TV series or film I could get my hands on, whilst playing every single Professor Layton entry time and time again on my Nintendo DS.
Nothing has particularly changed. Any time I get the chance to prove myself as a fictional detective, you’d best bet that I’m going to take the opportunity to do so.

That’s why Foolish Mortals has caught my eye, a Professor Layton-esque puzzler with a touch of Disney’s Haunted Mansion about it.
Developed by Inklingwood Studios, Foolish Mortals is an upcoming 2D supernatural mystery adventure game.
“Thirty years ago, an entire wedding suddenly and mysteriously vanished from Bellemore Manor,” the synopsis teases.
“Now, unravel the mysteries in 1930s Louisiana as you solve puzzles and uncover clues in search of the manor's lost treasure. A cozy, story-driven point & click adventure game of the merry & the macabre.”

Take a look at the game in action below.
My god, doesn’t it look stunning?
What I adore about Foolish Mortals is that it offers a cosy, fun take on horror - hence that earlier comparison to Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride.

The game promises “no deaths, dead-ends or scares”, just a compelling mystery.
There are over 100 items for players to find and use, but don’t worry. There’s also a hint system should you get stuck.
You’ll find these across 75 hand-drawn locations, with each location hiding documents, paintings, and evidence for you to investigate.
The game comes from a professional animation studio, so you can understand why it looks so lovely.

It’s also fully voiced, a nice added bonus.
Foolish Mortals remains without a release date for now, but you can sample the game for free thanks to a handy demo that’s available over on Steam.
I’d love to see the game land on Switch eventually. For now though, PC users can enjoy that demo.
