Something to test out your inner builder this weekend

In a climate where a lot of games can be similar to one another, this upcoming roguelike city-builder promises to bring something new to the table.

Set to release in Q4 of 2024, The King is Watching is an upcoming “roguelite kingdom builder” where players must defend their castle against ever-challenging waves of enemies.

Once Human is also free on Steam right now! Check out its trailer below.

When you are not hoarding off waves of enemies, you must prioritise production and army training so that your people can prosper under your watchful gaze.

Developed by Hypnohead, the success of your The King is Watching gameplay all depends on how much attention you pay as king as his gaze determines everything.

From which buildings produce resources to troop training and progress at the magic guild, you must oversee everything if things are to run smoothly.

“Glance at the wheat fields, and your peasants will start harvesting. Avert your attention to other royal matters, and production will stop. Only you decide how your kingdom will labour, so choose wisely,” the official synopsis reads.

If you wish to protect your kingdom, you must maintain production and eventually acquire the rarest materials to build stronger buildings and soldiers.

However, you will also need the magic that comes from the magic guild and archers and knights that require methodical training.

“Did we mention that you can produce flour dragons?!”

The King is Watching is now free to download and try out courtesy of Steam ahead of its full release later this year.

So if you’re looking for a city-builder with a unique twist and pretty art, then this is the one for you.

If you are looking for something else to play on Steam this weekend, you can check out this much-loved RPG which is also available for free.
