Steam users get first dibs at new Hogwarts Legacy, Assassin's Creed Black Flag-inspired RPG

Steam users get first dibs at new Hogwarts Legacy, Assassin's Creed Black Flag-inspired RPG

Greedfall 2: The Dying World is heading to Steam ahead of its PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launch.

NACON and Spiders have revealed that the upcoming Greedfall II: The Dying World is coming to Steam in early access this summer.

The original Greedfall landed on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One back in 2019. Combining the swashbuckling action of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag with a lush fantasy world akin to that of Hogwarts Legacy, the game offered an intriguing premise and beautifully realised open world. It split reviewers though, landing a score of 72. Awarding a score of 82, IGN praised the “morally complex tale”, referring to the game as a “crowd pleaser”, while GameSpot was slightly more critical of Greedfall’s “lack of nuance or innovation” in its review.

However, Greedfall proved to delight fans and now, Greedfall II: The Dying World is almost upon us. This successor will take the form of a prequel, with early access opening up on Steam this coming summer.

Take a look at the brand new trailer for Greedfall II: The Dying World below.

During yesterday’s NACON Direct, it was revealed that Greedfall II: The Dying World would be launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. While we don’t yet have a full release date, we do know that early access will open up on Steam during Summer 2024.

While there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding this prequel, it’s been confirmed to be set three years prior to the events of Greedfall. This time, instead of taking on the role of a Gacane colonist, you’ll play as a Teer Fradee native, attempting to regain freedom whilst contending with the fallout of the Malichor plague. Developers also teased that they’re aiming to make the combat more technical than it was in the previous game.

Other than that, we’re simply going to have to scan the trailer for clues. Art director Cyril Tahmassebi appeared during the showcase, saying, “If I could use one word to describe Greedfall II, it would be discovery. What we wanted to do was keep doing what we did for the first game but with much more of a focus on exploration, and we wanted to improve on that unique and Rembrandt-inspired art design and golden century feel. Where we were, to a certain degree, confined to an island in the first game, this time we are confronted with the continent of Gacane, which is an old continent with lots of great nations." We’ll be keeping an eye on Greedfall II’s development.
