Watering plants has never been scarier

There is no denying that the farming simulator genre can sometimes feel a bit samey. However, this upcoming title is about to spin the whole trend on its head.

From Stardew Valley to Wylde Flowers and Roots of Pacha to My Time at Sandrock, the farming simulator genre has been a success story in recent years.

Check out the trailer for Stardew Valley below!

However, it seems that developers are wanting to try something new by adding a little bit of… jazz to the tried-and-tested genre.

Or perhaps a little bit of horror.

That is why upcoming horror farming sim We Harvest Shadows has captured gamer’s attention as it tells the story of a lonely farmer who must build up their farm and more importantly, survive the nights.

Developed by David Wehle, We Harvest Shadows is “a first-person farming horror allegory” where players follow Garrett, a man who has exiled himself to the country after feeling like the world is better off without him in it.

Now with a farm to run, Garrett must fix up his house, care for livestock and improve the farmstead all whilst battling with the hundreds of acres of land surrounding the plot.

However, when the night draws close, Garrett discovers that he may not actually be alone.

“Taking inspiration both from slow-burn P.T.-style psychological horror games and Edith Finch-style personal first-person titles, this game plays on poignant horror themes to gradually imagine a terrifying vision that Garrett must save himself from—until the soul-shaking end.”

We Harvest Shadows promises a “relaxing yet terrifying” experience which is “beautiful yet ugly” and will be perfect for fans of Stardew Valley and Resident Evil.

Not a combo you will always see.

Better yet, it is available to try out right now courtesy of a free demo over on Steam.

With We Harvest Shadows yet to receive a full release date, this will be the perfect time to get stuck into the action ahead of the highly-anticipated day.
