It’s fair to say that Starfield looks set to be a massive hit for Xbox this year, and Microsoft predicted absolutely huge sales figures on PlayStation 5.
Obviously, following Microsoft’s $7.5 billion takeover of ZeniMax Media, Bethesda's parent company, we know that Starfield is no longer coming to PlayStation 5. However, there was once a time when Starfield was nearly a PS5 exclusive - that was until Microsoft threw big wads of money on the table.

Microsoft has certainly been on a massive spending spree over the last few years with not only acquiring ZeniMax Media but also the attempted acquisition of Activision Blizzard for an eye-watering $68.7 billion.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, the attempted acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been far from straightforward. Despite being approved by most market regulators across the world, it has faced opposition from the CMA in the UK and the FTC in the US.
Recently, Microsoft has been tangled in a court battle with the FTC due to its attempts to block the Activision Blizzard deal, but the company recently won that battle in court. So now it’s just the UK that stands in Microsoft’s way.
During the FTC court battle, all sorts of interesting information became apparent - not only Sony’s original goal to make Starfield PS5 exclusive, but also its plans to release a PS5 Pro and Slim.
Another piece of information to come out of the court battle is Microsoft’s projected sales of Bethesda’s Starfield and an upcoming Indiana Jones game (which is being developed by Wolfenstein studio, MachineGames), if they were to release on PS5.

In a tweet shared by video game journalist Stephen Totilo, Microsoft predicted that the Indiana Jones game and Starfield would have sold ten million units on PlayStation 5. Microsoft believed that the deficit could be recouped by Xbox Game Pass subscriptions and Xbox Series X/S console sales.

At this time, the Indiana Jones game doesn't have a gameplay trailer, let alone a release date. As for Starfield, that will be released on 6 September 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X/S. That’s unless you pre-order the Premium or Constellation Edition, in which case it will be 1 September. Starfield will also launch on Xbox Game Pass.
