Pokémon fans praise 'incredible' new game you can play free

Pokemon fans are going to have a field day with this one

The new free Pokémon game, Pokémon TCG Pocket, has gone down a treat with fans during its soft launch.

The free app brings the fun of collecting and battling with Pokémon cards to your mobile device, and while there are only a limited amount of cards available at the moment, there’ll be hundreds of new additions during the app’s lifespan.

Take a look at our interview with Twitch Plays Pokémon below!

Users can open new packs and inspect the cards within, noting all the details that would be present on the real-life card.

They can then put together a deck and test their might with online battles, just like the real-life card game.

Fans are loving it so far, with some fans even considering it to be a rare example of “a free-to-play game done right.”

Reddit user Squirtle_Shades_ made a post praising the TCG game, saying After just one week of being live, free-to-play players have unlocked roughly half the set without spending a dime. That’s incredible.”

They continued, “at this pace, I can see players collecting 80-90% of a set just by completing missions and opening packs daily—and this is all before any special events.”

Some were more sceptical though, like one player who said it’s “too early to tell. Most gatcha are very generous from the start. Once you finish all the mission rewards, you are stuck with just opening 2 packs a day.

Another player added it’s “good for collecting, but for battles it’s harder to make a strong deck … Maybe with trade feature coming later it will help a lot for deck building.”

Perhaps it is too early to assume this is the best free-to-play Pokémon game there’s ever been, but you can’t deny it’s off to a good start.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is available now on the App Store and Google Play, and worth a go whether you’re familiar with the Pokémon TCG or completely new to the game.
