Pokémon fans surprised with major new release you can grab free now

Even if you are not a Pokémon fan, it would be hard to ignore the new game on everybody’s lips, especially as the title taking the world by storm has just received yet another update.

Yes, I am talking about the Pokémon Trading Card Game, otherwise known as Pokémon TCG, which has been thriving throughout 2024.

Initially released in 1996 but having a revival in recent years, this online card game allows players to “catch ‘em all” by building up their roster of Pokémon in order to compete in PvP card battles.

Basically, if you have seen somebody with their head in their phone this year, it is either because they are playing Balatro or Pokémon TCG.

Not only that but, if it is indeed the latter, they won’t be putting their phones down any time soon as the latest Pokémon TCG Pocket set is now available.

Offering 68 new standard cards as well as at least 20 secret ones, this free update, titled Mythical Island, is ready to go.

As well as the aforementioned cards, there will also be five EX cards which come new to the game.

“Experience wonder and whimsy with a new expansion’s worth of cards coming to the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket,” the Mythical Island official description reads.

“Classic Mythical Pokémon Mew and Celebi are powerful Pokémon ex ready to add extra magic to your collection.”

Although most people have spent most of their Pokémon TCG career opening card packs, there are also several new single-player missions arriving with the latest update.

This will allow you to earn pack hourglasses, shop tickets and more so that you can get back to the best bit, opening those packs.

With The Pokémon Company aiming to continue updating Pokémon TCG well into the new year, we can expect the Mythical Island update to be the first of many.
