Ah, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series, a truly beloved franchise for Sony’s PlayStation brand and a series that fans are desperate to see make a return.
The last release was with the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection released in 2022 for PC and PlayStation 5. This collection included modern remasters of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

However, the last time that this series would see an actual brand-new game was with the original release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End back in 2016 for PS4. This means that it’s been nearly 10 years since the last new release and to make it worse with the PS5, it’s looking to be the first generation which will not be having a new game in the series since its inception in 2007 for the PS3. I think all Naughty Dog fans can agree that the series deserves a proper Uncharted game before we move on to the next console generation.

That being said, 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune recently celebrated its 16th birthday and fans have been calling for this classic to be remade. Sure, we did get a remaster with improved gameplay and visuals in The Nathan Drake Collection in 2015, but can you imagine how good the OG would be remade from the ground up using the PS5’s enhanced Tempest Engine, the same engine that powered The Last of Us Part I remake? Treasure hunting would never look so good!
“The UNCHARTED series turns 16 today!” tweeted Naughty Dog. “UNCHARTED: Drake's Fortune climbed, jumped, and shot its way onto the PS3 on November 19, 2007, introducing the world to Nathan Drake, Elena Fisher, and Victor Sullivan.”
As well as calling for the release of Uncharted 5, fans would also love to see the original game in the series receive a much-needed remake and they let their feelings be known on Twitter. “Still waiting for Uncharted 5,” replied LOSTyGIRL. “We need a native remake on PS5 for the original trilogy,” added Chito.

“Remake it, please. Give the original trilogy (and Golden Abyss) that The Last of Us Part I treatment,” pleaded Luke Flux. “Big shout out to Amy Hennig for bringing us one of the most enjoyable series in gaming,” rejoiced Virtual Sphere. “It was your writing that made us all fall in love with Drake and the rest of the cast. We will not forget. You are a queen.”
At this time, we do know that Naughty Dog is busy getting ready to release The Last of Us Part II Remastered in January 2024 for PS5, as well as the standalone multiplayer game, not to mention the rumoured The Last of Us Part III. As much as I’d love to see a new game in the Uncharted series unless Naughty Dog outsources the project to a talented team such as Blue Point Games, I won't be holding my breath for a release anytime soon.
If you’re keen for that Uncharted fix, not only is Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection included in PS Plus, but so too is Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on PS4 (backwards compatible on PS5) which includes remasters of the original trilogy.
