Uncharted 5 already has its perfect protagonist and has been ready to go for years.
As a devoted fan of the Naughty Dog series, it pains me that the PlayStation 5 is increasingly looking to be the first console generation not to have a new Uncharted game since its inception on the PS3 with 2007’s Drake’s Fortune.
Check out the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End trailer below!
Not including remasters, the last mainline entry in the series is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on the PlayStation 4 in 2016, which was followed by its standalone sequel spin-off, The Lost Legacy a year later.

At this time, Naughty Dog has been long at work getting its brand new IP out of the window with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and with a bit of luck, we hope that The Last of Us Part III is also secretly in development.
So unless something drastic happens and Naughty Dog somehow finds time or even passes on development duties to an outsourced studio, I’d be shocked if we were to see Uncharted 5 in this console generation.
I’m sure Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End won't be the last we’ll see of Nathan Drake and friends, but it might be safe to assume that we’ll be waiting for the PlayStation 6 for their return.
That being said, fans on Reddit have been discussing the future of the series and it’s something that I recently spoke about how Uncharted needs to bring back Nathan Drake but on one condition.

Before we proceed, I am about to venture into spoilers for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, so you have been warned.
“Uncharted 5 protagonists should be them,” said Redditor Interesting_Pin2826, sharing two images of characters who we met in Uncharted 4.
“I just finished Uncharted 4 and the ending was beautiful and leaves us with an open ending that means there's a possibility of Uncharted 5,” they continued. “Assuming Naughty Dog wants to make an Uncharted sequel instead of remastering The Last Of Us for the sixth time.”
The two characters in question are Sam Drake, Nathan’s older brother and Cassie, the daughter of Nathan and Elena. However, one of those two characters in particular was a popular topic of discussion.

“Just Sam,” replied Racager, getting straight to the point with Cash27369 adding “Sam supremacy.”
MaxiPad1989 suggested both Sam Drake and Chloe Frazer, saying “Chloe as the playable protagonist with Sam and Charlie Cutter as her backup would be ideal. Maybe they can give Chloe a good send-off like Nate got and then let Sam take over.”
Personally, I feel that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was one of the best endings in video game history and wrapped things up perfectly. But that’s not to say that I don’t want to see more Uncharted, because I absolutely do.
If or when Naughty Dog decides to release a new Uncharted, I'll be happy as long as it knocks it out of the park, as every game in the series has before.
