The Last Of Us fans are already theorising who the main character will be for Part III, whether it’s Ellie, Abby or a new character entirely.
We’ve had a remake and a remaster since The Last Of Us Part II launched on the PlayStation 4 in 2020, which means we’ll finally be breaking new ground when the next game rolls around.
But first there’s the second season of The Last Of Us TV series to get through, the trailer of which is below.
Little is known about the third game, and there was no mention of it on The Last Of Us Day, but it’s a topic of heated discussion in the community right now.

One such discussion is who should be the game’s protagonist, as The Last Of Us Part II gave us two in quite a controversial way.
BigPurpleDuck on Reddit asked their fellow fans if they think it’ll be “Ellie and Abby again” in the next game, or if it’ll go in a “completely different direction with new characters”.
The general consensus was The Last Of Us Part III needs to be an Ellie game, with one fan hoping for at least “the vast majority of the game (as in 90 to 95% plus) with just her”.
Another went a step further saying they imagine the third game will focus on Ellie, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if “we play as a new character alongside her as well”.

Finally, one fan said they’d be “very surprised if the main character isn't Ellie. And I doubt they'll do the 50/50 split between two characters again, that would be a little too similar to Part II".
Personally, I’d imagine the next game will follow Ellie and whichever companion joins her, though it might make for a more impactful experience if she was alone for most of the game.
