The Last Of Us Part II Remastered has already jumped to the top of Metacritic as 2024’s best-rated game, and it’s not even out yet.
When you think about it, the second Last Of Us game is a bit like Marmite, you either love it or you hate it. In our review of the remastered PlayStation exclusive we gave it endless amounts of praise, even going as far to say there’s nothing bad about it whatsoever.

It seems many outlets share that opinion too, as the positive critic reviews for the game have landed it a safe spot at the top of Metacritic, making it the best-rated game of the year so far.

Of course, we are only in January and there are plenty of other games on the horizon that could knock The Last Of Us Part II Remastered down a peg, personally my money is on the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake. Though for now it’s a heck of an achievement and one that’s well-deserved.
Whether fans of the game agree is another question, and we’ll see what everyone thinks when the game releases on 19 January.
While it’s the same single player story fans will have enjoyed, or despised, on PlayStation 4, the remastered version does bring back some noticeable differences and bonus features. For starters it looks ever-so-slightly better due it being exclusive to the PlayStation 5. It also includes some lost-levels from the original version, a roguelike mode called No Return, some new customisation options and of course all the bells and whistles the DualSense controller brings to PS5 games.
The Last Of Us Part II Remastered can be purchased outright, our if you own a copy of the PS4 version you can upgrade for $10/£10.
