Some fans are hailing the hospital mission from The Last Of Us Part 1 as one of the greatest levels in video game history.
Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t played/finished The Last Of Us Part 1
I’m sure we’ve all played through a level in a video game that’s stuck with us for years after playing it. If I had to give an example myself it’d be the final level of Halo 3, being the culmination of everything that had transpired across the first three games, ending with a climatic warthog-run through an exploding world.

Other people have their own opinions though, and the community came together to share them in a PlayStation Reddit thread by God954, who asked: “What’s the best video game level you ever played?”
Answers varied, suggesting levels from several beloved games and series, like Red Dead Redemption, God Of War, and Mass Effect just to name a few.

However, one commenter replied “The final mission of The Last of Us Part 1” and honestly I can’t blame them, it was an exceptionally great level in an overall phenomenal game, and others shared their opinion.
“God that mission made me cry when I played through it. Knowing that Joel has to lie to Ellie to keep her safe yet she knows he’s lying through his teeth and she would have gladly sacrificed herself… oof…”
“I still cry everytime I play that mission. That mission does such an amazing job making you hate yet love Joel.”
“The ending seriously blew me away when I first played it. I’ve never felt so invested in a story. American Venom in RDR2 had a similar feeling.”

It’s a level filled with emotion, as the entire game up to that point has been about getting Ellie to that hospital, only to then get her out by any means necessary. Combine that emotion with the seemingly endless amount of soldiers blocking your path and chasing you down, and you have a truly memorable final challenge.
It truly was impactful, to say the least, and the fact that people are still discussing it so many years after the game’s initial release is a testament to the story and level design.
The Last Of Us Part 1 is available on PlayStation 5 and PC, with the inferior version, The Last Of Us Remastered, available on PlayStation 4.
