SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals, a forgotten PlayStation military shooter of yesteryear could be making a comeback after a screenshot and details were leaked online.
Originally developed by Zipper Interactive before the series was handed over to Slant Six Games, the first entry to be released in the Sony series was SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals in 2002 for the PlayStation 2. Since then it had multiple sequels across PS2, PSP and finally, the PS3.

However, the last entry in the series on PlayStation 3 was SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals 4 in 2011 and we haven't heard a peep since, but that might be about to change according to a recent leak that will excite fans eager for the third-person military shooter to make its return.

As reported by MP1st, a source has not only provided what is believed to be an early build screenshot of a new SOCOM game but also additional details have been provided.
A previous job listing confirmed that the new Sony studio That’s No Moon founded in 2021, will be working on a third-person, action-adventure AAA single-player game powered by Unreal Engine 5, now believed to be the new SOCOM.
That’s No Moon consists of developers that had previously worked with The Last of Us and Uncharted studio Naughty Dog, and arguably more importantly, veteran Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward. So you know that this studio has plenty of expertise and experience when it comes to not only action-adventure games but also military shooters.
As for the leaked screenshot (which I won’t show here for legal reasons but it can be found on MP1st), is a third-person image in a desert sandbox with pieces of furniture to be fired at, presumably as a method to test the game's shooting mechanics. It’s claimed that this leaked screenshot is from a 2022 reel for the military shooter in question.

Of course, we should take all unconfirmed reports with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, if this rumoured SOCOM game had begun development in 2021 when That’s No Moon was founded or in 2022, then the game could be a year or two away from being released, is my guess.
It will be interesting if the rumoured SOCOM will be a single-player title as it has primarily been known as a multiplayer shooter in the past. We’ll keep you posted if we hear of any further developments.
