I think it’s fair to say that plenty of us look back on the PlayStation 2 era with fondness. It was a great console that boasted an impressive line-up of games.
God of War, God of War II, Shadow of the Colossus, Twisted Metal: Black, Ico, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater … I could go on. That particular generation also boasted some epic cross-platform releases. I know I personally spent an ungodly number of hours on The Simpsons: Hit & Run. We’re in the midst of a nostalgia-fuelled trend right now. We know that Konami are in the midst of remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, while Bloober Team are working on a Silent Hill 2 remake. They follow in the footsteps of recent remakes like Dead Space and The Last of Us Part I. How would you feel if I told you that you’ll soon be able to dive back into the PS2 originals?
Take a look at the trailer for the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake below.
PlayStation-centric YouTuber Mystic has claimed that Sony is working on a new updated PlayStation 2 emulator. In a recent upload, he said, “There have been noticeable improvements thus far when it comes to the classics programme that Sony’s recently done. There are some big omissions like PlayStation 2 titles but it’s probably a matter of them not having a brand new PlayStation 2 emulator.”

He continued, “I would be borderline shocked if that’s not what’s being worked on right now - and I have it on good authority that that is what’s happening but they are not ready with that new emulator just yet.”
Mystic isn’t known for being a prominent leaker but many say he is known for having game dev friends. As such, it certainly adds believability to what he’s said. As with all rumours though, we’ll have to take this with a pinch of salt until anything is confirmed by Sony.
