PlayStation gamers are returning to PS Plus over recent price hike changes to save money in the seemingly never-ending cost of living crisis.
In recent months, there have been many rumours claiming that GTA VI will be the first game to charge in the region of £100 for a base game, not a deluxe or collector’s edition and following the recent Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, that prospect has taken a big step towards becoming a reality.
Check out the Mario Kart World trailer below!
During the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, it was announced that Mario Kart World would be a launch title. The base game has an RRP of £74.99, without DLC.

This high price point for Mario Kart World has understandably angered many gamers claiming that Nintendo is out of touch.
We can argue inflation and whatnot, but production costs were more expensive back in the 90s especially and in this digital age, companies seemingly have fewer overheads and more profit.
Regardless of whether we think it’s fair for the likes of Mario Kart World to be expensive as it is, I think the main concern for gamers is that this will open up the floodgates for other publishers to do the same.
Again, this is a price hike for a base game and when other publishers follow the lead, they’ll still be selling season passes, battle passes, individual pieces of DLC and in-game currency.

Services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass have always offered good value for money and with the likelihood of individual games becoming even more expensive, these subscription services are looking to be a better deal than ever.
“With game prices going up to $80 to $90, PS Plus feels like a better deal,” said Redditor Delicious_Maize9656. “You get a huge game library and now and then, they add some really solid titles such as my latest favourite, Robocop: Rogue City.”

“Just watch, they’ll hike subscription prices too. Again,” exclaimed NeinRegrets. Though to be fair, sadly prices for every subscription service go up every year, sometimes more than once.
“I have been playing games via PS Plus Extra for the past two years. I've only bought four games so far during that time,” said 1AverageGamer.
“I wishlist games and pick them up eventually when I get notified they’re on sale,” said Xxdmonster5xX suggesting a nice money-saving tip.
I’d like to say that publishers won’t use the Nintendo Switch 2 game prices as an excuse to increase its prices too but we all know that it’s as inevitable as Thanos.
