PlayStation Plus subscribers have been warned not to download certain games due to a complicated error with Sony’s popular service.
Regardless of the tier that you subscribe to, PlayStation Plus brings a lot of value to its customers whether you pay for the Essential, Extra or Premium tier. Of course, the higher the tier that you subscribe to, the more games you’ll have to play in the ever-evolving library. What’s more, with the Premium you will even be able to stream certain games, watch a free curated list of movies and much more.

Recently, Sony announced the latest batch of games to be included in PS Plus Essential for January 2024. However, if you choose to download any of those games included in the Essential tier as well as others that you may have claimed in the past, a Reddit user has a stark warning for fellow subscribers. “DO NOT download PS Extra/Premium games that you already own from PS Plus Essential,” they warned users on the thread.

What this Reddit user warns is that if you have added a game via the PlayStation Plus Essential tier which later appears in the Extra and/or the Premium tier, do not download them from the latter. The reason is that the Extra and Premium tiers will override the Essential version.
Any game that you add to your library from PS Plus Essential will always remain in your collection as long as you have an active subscription. Yet, much like Xbox Game Pass, titles in the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers are often timed, meaning that they will leave PS Plus at some point and thus leave your library. So never add a game from PS Plus Extra or Premium, if you already had it via Essential, otherwise you run the risk of losing it forever.
Typically, the fresh batch of titles for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium are announced during the middle of each month, so keep your eyes peeled on GAMINGbible to see what PS Plus delights await us next.
