October is a month many love, typically for all the spooks that go hand-in-hand with the delicious sweet treats we store up for trick-or-treaters we hope never knock. But it’s also turning into a generous month for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Now, I don’t want to get into any console war discussions – people like what they like and that’s all there is to it. Still, while nobody at GAMINGbible is bothered by your preferences, it’s also fair to say that PS Plus is exceptionally good this month; Alien: Isolation, Dead Island Definitive Collection, and Dark Picture Anthology: House of Ashes have all been added to amp up the chills.
Don't forget to check out Alien: Isolation on PS Plus this month!
But not content with leaving subscribers hanging – possibly because interest has drastically decreased – PlayStation Plus Extra has slipped in a bonus October free game. A-Train Express is far from horrific, unless dated graphics frighten you, however, it’s a freebie that’s coming to you at no extra cost, and without any official announcement from PS. That being said, only US users are able to get it, which, while uncommon, isn’t completely unheard of – in February, Asia-based subs were able to play Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris while other players looked on.

For those of you who one, aren’t in the US, and two, don’t pay for PS Plus Extra, there’s another bonus you can snap up instead, though this one does involve spending money. Subscribers can get up to £30 off when they purchase any two items from the PlayStation Direct store online. Considering Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has just launched, and is already a massive hit with fans for its incredible opening hour, this might be the time to savour the rare benefits of PS Plus. I say rare because, let’s face it, users haven’t been too thrilled by what’s on offer for some time now, especially after price hikes were announced.
If none of that takes your fancy, there’s always the “greatest survival horror” waiting in the wings to save the day, though, I’d argue it’s not a game for the faint-hearted.
