Released in 2014, The Evil Within is a horror title about Sebastian Castellanos, a protagonist pulled into a world of nightmares and monsters with seemingly no hope of escape. It was developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda and scored well amongst reviewers.
If you’re on PC, you can actually grab this game for free on the Epic Games store, but only for a limited time.
Reddit user shreder75 recently tried the game out and gave their critique saying: “So I'm playing Evil Within … I'll start by saying I mostly like it. I'll also add that I've heard a lot of bad things about this game over the years... and I understand why so much hate has been thrown its way.
“Chilling atmosphere aside, it really plays like ... s***. Not total s***, but mostly s*** … Challenge is one thing. trial and error coupled with shit controls is plain bad design.”

Safe to say their opinion wasn’t shared, with fans singing the game’s praises and how it delivers a solid survival horror experience, despite bad controls.
“Evil Within is one of the best Survival Horror games on the PS4.”
“I love The Evil Within, but it is a very niche game. I don't agree the controls are bad, but they are focused on delivering that survival horror experience, making it so you definitely have to be careful and avoid direct confrontation when you can.”
“EW was like a best of so many horror genres mashed into one. And I loved it. But I absolutely loved the sequel, so I hope you carry forward and check it out as well.”
