Well, PlayStation Plus’ free game offerings are already shaping up to be excellent next month, based on the first confirmed freebie.
If Sony follows its usual announcement pattern, tomorrow, we’ll find out what free games will be offered via PlayStation Plus’ Essential tier in August. Already, subscribers have been predicting what titles could be coming our way, and they have some seriously high expectations - numerous people think we could be seeing gems like Hades, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Cyberpunk 2077, and it’s fair to say that if we get any one of those, it’ll be an amazing month. However, that's all pure speculation, so don’t get your hopes up.
PS Plus subscribers have until 31 July to claim Endling: Extinction is Forever - take a look at the trailer below.
Now though, one excellent turn-based RPG has been confirmed to be landing on PS Plus Extra and Premium on its release date next month. I’m talking about Sea of Stars - a gorgeous pixel art adventure from Sabotage Studio, which follows the story of “two Children of the Solstice who will combine the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of fending off the monstrous creations of the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer”.

Sea of Stars’ arrival on PS Plus was announced on the PlayStation Blog. Sabotage Studio's level designer, Philippe Dionne, wrote: “We’re extremely excited to confirm that Sea of Stars will be joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog (available for all Extra and Premium members) on launch day, 29 August. It’s incredible for us to imagine how many more players worldwide will experience Sea of Stars and join the conversation around our project.
“After working on this game that is so dear to us for five years, we’re now only a few weeks away from release, and we’re happy to share this moment with the PlayStation community.”
What’s more, Sea of Stars will also be releasing on Xbox Game Pass on day one, so both rival subscription services are going to get access to it. A demo is also available to play right now on Steam and PlayStation 4/5.
