PlayStation has confirmed the first free PlayStation Plus game of February 2024, and it's something brand-new. No doubt some of you will still find something to complain about.
PlayStation Plus subscribers have been on something of a rollercoaster this last year. Between lacklustre free games, not-so welcome price hikes, and other bonuses that ultimately have fallen flat, gamers are expecting more. It remains to be seen how this latest free offering goes down with the audience, but it looks like a good time to me.

Foamstars is Square Enix's answer to Splatoon, and by "answer to" I actually mean "almost pretty much a complete rip-off of." Still, it looks like bright colorful fun which, in a sea of grizzly shooters, is always welcome in my book.

For those who haven't been following Foamstars since it was announced, it's a third-person shooter that basically looks like a Fortnite-themed foam party. Although judging from the positive previews I've read, Foamstars is much better than I've just made it sound with that description.
PlayStation made the announcement on social media, confirming that Foamstars will "headline" the February 2024 PlayStation Plus lineup when it launches 6 February. At the time of the writing the other two games have yet to be revealed.
It's not often PlayStation drops a day-one release for PlayStation Plus subscribers, but it's always great when they do. Previous examples include Sea Of Stars, Rocket League, and Fall Guys, all of which are fantastic games. Let's hope Foamstars is able to deliver a similar level of fun. We'll find out for sure on 6 February, though I'm sure until then there'll be plenty of complaining that PlayStation hasn't added Ghost Of Tsushima 2 and Red Dead Redemption 3 to the monthly free games lineup. That's how it usually goes.
