Sony is making a major change to how PlayStation Plus works, and a lot of folks aren’t happy about it.
As revealed in a PlayStation Blog post, Sony will no longer be offering PlayStation 4 games as standard through PlayStation Plus Monthly Game updates.
“Starting in January 2026, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog,” Sony stated on the PlayStation Blog.

“We may still provide titles that can be playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles after this date.”
This does make a lot of sense when you factor in the age of the PlayStation 4, as the first model released over 11 years ago now. Hopefully, the update means that more PlayStation 5 titles will come to PlayStation Plus over the next couple of years instead.
However, in a Twitter thread discussing the update, a lot of folks online aren’t particularly pleased with the news - with some even labelling it a “scam”.
Payday 3 is this month's essential tier headliner.
“How else do you think Sony will be able to make remasters of PS4 games lmao. Scamming mc scam,” replied user @Spam86805148609.

“Yet the plus price stays the same,” stated user @gosuprime022, “Great scam, Sony.”
“This generation has been great but not great enough to warrant cutting support in my opinion,” commented user @Memoryofusall, “Do better and then have less options.”
Look, I get it. If you don’t own a PlayStation 5, this update is going to make a continued PlayStation Plus subscription far less valuable to you.
But I think this is a bit of a lose/lose situation, where Sony is concerned.

People constantly complain about them offering PlayStation 4 games as part of the monthly download incentives, but now they’re pivoting to offering PlayStation 5 titles more often… and a completely different part of the community is mad instead.
