PlayStation releasing gorgeous new hardware sooner than we expected

We want the shiny newness

The PlayStation 5 Pro has only recently launched, yet the company is hard at work preparing for another new hardware release sure to get you salivating.

Although it’s fair to say that the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck still take the lead in terms of handheld consoles, PlayStation has its sight set on dominating that sector of the industry.

Having experienced a warm reception to the release of the PlayStation Portal, Sony is planning to launch a handheld option that allows you to natively play games like the Switch.

Arguably, the foundations are already in place for this, and so it seems that this new hardware will be released a lot sooner than we first anticipated.

Now for something a little different: the Skeleton Crew trailer!

In a Bloomsberg report, the outlet outlines PlayStation’s plans, while also making a point to emphasise that a release of this handheld option isn’t imminent.

For the time being, the current PlayStation Portal will be the only one available.

That said, the plan to build upon the foundations already laid is already full steam ahead.

Moreover, to better position itself to meet the demands of its consumers, PlayStation intends to focus more time, energy, and money into expanding what the Portal offers.

One such way it’ll highlight its continued support of the hardware is to release a new colour option.

Currently, you can only purchase a white Portal, but to mark PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, you’ll soon be able to buy a black version as well.

This news comes via Dealabs Magazine.

We’ve yet to see what this new version of the Portal looks like, though we suspect little about its design has changed bar the colour.

Not only is there a lack of visual proof of its existence, there’s also no specific date for when the black Portal will be released.

Until an official reveal announces the new version of the hardware, we have to prepare for this to be nothing more than a highly believable rumour.

That said, there’s clearly a gap in the market that a black Portal would easily fill.

With Christmas just around the corner, it could be that we’re about to hear about the new hardware any day now.
