Folks online seem to think we’ve had the first official confirmation of a PlayStation 6 launch title, following a developer’s update on their upcoming title.
Towards the end of last week, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt RED confirmed that The Witcher 4 has entered “full-scale production.”
Michał Nowakowski, one of CD Projekt’s CEOs, offered this update on the official CD Projekt Website: “I’m proud to confirm that several weeks ago the Polaris team wrapped up preproduction and moved on to full-scale production – the most intensive phase of development.”

Over on Comicbook.com, Tyler Fischer connected some dots regarding The Witcher 4’s potential launch date and concluded that we’ll likely be seeing the title sometime in 2028.
Now, personally, I wouldn’t be shocked if that did end up being correct.
That being said, the game is undoubtedly going to be a huge undertaking, so I would wager we’ll see the game released closer to 2030 than 2028.
This gen has plenty of delights to bring us first, including Ghost of Yōtei.
However, a 2028 release date would line up with Microsoft’s “expected starting period” of the next generation of consoles (as revealed in leaked court documents during Xbox's Activision Blizzard FTC trial back in 2023).

Naturally, Sony isn’t exactly going to let Microsoft go unchallenged here. It’s been proven several times that being the first next-generation console on the market is pretty beneficial for sales numbers.
Plus, getting everyone attached to your console before a competitor has an opportunity to release their own is obviously extremely helpful in the long run too.
So, if Sony and Microsoft both plan to release their next-gen systems in 2028, and The Witcher 4 could feasibly see release in the same year… I think it’s more than fair to assume that CD Projekt RED’s upcoming title could be one of our first next-get launch titles.
Here’s hoping the developer doesn’t rush things to take advantage of this release window though…
