Sony’s former boss may have helped gamers narrow down the release window for the PlayStation 6.
As much as fans beg Sony to “slow down” its next-gen plans, it seems we’re only a few years away from the next console release.
Many gamers believe we’ve barely scratched the surface of what current-gen consoles can do.

Having launched during a tumultuous time, the PlayStation 5’s life cycle has been a complicated one.
Suffice to say, the console has much more to give. Even more so since the PS5 Pro was released.
Before the PS6 launches though, there's a game you can play on your PS5 that's utterly charming. Check out the trailer for Botany Manor below
While nobody should sell their PS5 in preparation for its next-gen upgrade just yet, Sony’s shift in focus has fans speculating how much longer it’ll be before an announcement is made.

Sony has yet to give any indication of when the PS6 will be released; however, its former president, Shuhei Yoshida, has a theory.
As detailed by TweakTown, and originally shared by Venture Beat, Yoshida has said that 2028 “feels right” for the console’s launch.
“I have no information about the next PlayStation, but it feels a bit too early for me to say. The PS5 generation was slowed down because of manufacturing issues. If the next PlayStation comes out in 2028, that feels right to me.”
Yoshida continued, “Microsoft had their leak about a 2028 plan. Maybe both of them will come out then.”

To be clear, Yoshida claims no insider knowledge – this is purely his opinion based on the industry and his previous experience with Sony.
Still, the mention of Xbox’s next-gen plans adds a certain sense of credibility to his argument due to Microsoft itself believing the PS6 will be here come 2028.
A report to UK regulators said the following, “Indeed the next new generation of consoles are not expected to be released before the fall of 2028 at the very earliest.”
Three years still feels too soon, though the silver lining here is that this is the “earliest” next-gen will happen. Ergo, it could take longer.
