The latest PlayStation 5 update has arrived, and it’s left some fans feeling rather unimpressed.
That being said, it’s been a busy ol’ time lately for the PlayStation 5. Console exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 released to rave reviews, and is already PlayStation Studios’ fastest-selling game of all-time. Let’s not forget Sony also unveiled a brand new PS5 console which is set to launch next month. We’ve also seen some significant changes made to PlayStation Plus. Premium tier subscribers can now cloud stream games on their PS5 consoles, saving on precious storage space. The Sony Pictures Core catalogue was also introduced. All in all, PlayStation fans have been treated well, so surely this update can be excused for being a tad dull.
Take a look at the new PlayStation 5 in action below. Its staggered rollout is expected to begin next month with release dates to be announced in due course.
The update was pointed out by Reddit user hybroid who nabbed a screenshot. The update means that “music in the control centre is now much easier to use,” thanks to a new two-column layout allowing you to browse songs, playlists, and categories. You can now also “avoid unintentionally broadcasting to your surroundings while broadcasting games with your PlayStation VR2.”

Additionally, if you ask “What’s new?” via voice command on any screen, you can check for PS5 features. For now though, this is only available in the UK and US. Finally, the update “improved the messages and usability on some screens”.
I did say it was a tad dull. One Reddit user commented, “No improved stability?” while another said, “Cool, but where are the folders?” A further comment read, “Still waiting for a feature to join Discord directly from console” or “screen share from Discord,” added another. Hopefully these requests will be addressed in due course.
