With all the recent talk on cloud gaming and the disappearance of consoles setting many of us on edge, it’s good to hear that Sony will be focusing on hardware and supporting the PlayStation 5 for years to come.
This news comes directly from PlayStation Co-CEO, Hideaki Nishino, as he commented on the future of the PlayStation brand.
The recent PlayStation 5 Pro is a step forward for visual fidelity
“There is no doubt that home video game consoles will remain at the centre of our business for some time,” said Nishino in a recent Famitsu interview.

The head of PlayStation was quick to confirm that, “the number of PS5 games is increasing rapidly. It is unlikely that this will suddenly change tomorrow.”
What does this mean for players?
Confirmation like this shows that Sony is dedicated to supporting the PlayStation 5 for many more years to come.
This should be apparent from the number of PS4 games we’re still seeing come to market, but Nishino’s comments ensure that Sony will focus on not only the PS5, but also the future of hardware.

When he said, “we believe that hardware will not disappear just yet,” we should take heart that we’ll have consoles sticking around for a while yet, perhaps even beyond the PlayStation 6.
It’s also worth noting, that when Nishino said this, you can be sure that PS5 games will keep rolling out for some time.
While the industry is prepared for the next jump in quality between consoles to be much smaller, this will mean that PS5 versions of future games are more likely.
So, don’t go thinking that your console will be redundant sooner rather than later, even while others are already thinking about the ‘end’ of this generation.

You’ll still be playing PS5 titles for a good few years yet, and we’re happy to hear that.
