Coming to PlayStation Plus this week is the terrific Two Point Campus. If you’re not familiar with the Two Point series - do you live under a rock? - it’s essentially a rebranded, nay rebooted version of the ‘Theme’ games we had back in the 1990s. A place where you can create the biggest, most wonderful business or establishment.
Much like Theme Park and Theme Hospital, the Two Point series combines wonderful tactical planning, colurful visuals, and oddball humour, to create a very approachable simulation game.

Following on from the huge success of Two Point Hospital, which featured all the hallmarks of the older sim games from previous console generations and PC, Two Point Campus gave players the chance to develop a great university.
While some may argue that Two Point Campus doesn’t quite hit the same funny beats as the previous title, there is no denying the accessibility and laidback approach of the game. The bold visuals, including characters who look like rejected designs from a Wallace and Gromit film, are saccharine and twee enough to be engaging and they disguise the depth of a game that will consistently deliver rewards.
While, yes, the game can have it’s difficult moments, it’s often seen and celebrated as a ‘cosy’ as they allow you to live out your ideas and personalise an often seen as sensible place, bringing in bucketloads of whimsy.
As we said in our 8/10 review upon release, Two Point Campus delivers a “charming yet chaotic” experience and that’s the best way to put it. You can stick to the rules as much as possible, but something will be thrown in, like a spanner in the works, and suddenly change your trajectory, usually resulting in something all the more original and hilarious.

And this university, or college for the Americans, isn’t a very serious place to study, considering you can choose a path through magic, or even become a medieval knight. There are regular lessons to take, too, but if you want something more fantastical, you’re covered here.
As the nights begin to draw in and we edge closer to winter, these cosier games will become an enticing proposition, a way to escape the cold drudgery of the dark evenings, rainy days, and the bitter cold. I played this very game last winter as it dragged me from the depths of winter blues and into a more sunshine state of joy. It’s silly, often ridiculous, and while it might not reach the heights of Two Point Hospital for its farcical nonsense, this iteration in the series is still an absolute gem that has to be played. More so as it’s free to download and play on PlayStation Plus as one of October’s highlights.
