Sony has released a new system update that fixes a graphical bug that has been to the annoyance of fans for the last week or so.
On 12 September 2024, Sony released a firmware update that was supposed to be as generic as they come by offering system stability. Unfortunately for many PlayStation 5 gamers, they encountered something much worse.

While this issue wasn't encountered by everyone, that system update plagued games such as Final Fantasy XVI, Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Elden Ring and more with graphical bugs that covered the screen with black squares. Some players even reported stuttering and crashes.

Thankfully, Sony has now released a new PlayStation 5 patch to fix the previous patch and by most accounts, it seems to be a hit with fans on Reddit.
“This is it. Let's see if the issue is really solved,” said Icy-Confection-312 with AdSweaty411adding “Played for an hour post-update with no issues. Seems like it's been resolved.”
However, it seems that the graphical bugs are still being encountered by gamers even with the latest PlayStation 5 update installed.
"Did not fix anything for me, it just broke my PS5, and now it crashes upon start up, already did a factory reset and when I shut it off and turn it back on, it says “software error” and starts shutting off,” exclaimed Secure-Lead9854. “I can’t log into the network or the same thing happens immediately and I can't play any game online at all.”

Yet, it seems that this bug might be related specifically to a game rather than just the PlayStation 5 console, something that Final Fantasy XVI publisher, Square Enix has addressed.

“In response to the crashes and graphical bugs that were occurring on the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XVI, SIE have released a new system update,” it tweeted. “Please try downloading and installing this update.”
Hopefully, whether it's another PlayStation 5 system update or a patch to fix a specific game, issues encountered such as Secure-Lead9854 will be fixed soon.
