PlayStation 5 surprise free download is a huge hit with fans

This will be a big hit

Last night’s State of Play event by Sony was one for the history books and not just because it revealed that a 2024 banger release was getting some new free content.

Taking place yesterday afternoon (or evening for us), Sony’s latest State of Play event saw a lot of new exciting announcements.

Check out the launch trailer for Astro Bot below!

From an Horizon Zero Dawn remaster to our first trailer for the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, it was full to the brim with exciting news for the PlayStation gamers out there.

However, the event kicked off with the return of one of our favourite 2024 characters, Astro Bot himself.

Released earlier this month, Astro Bot was the highly-anticipated sequel for Astro’s Playroom and the PlayStation exclusive platformer is already expected to be a strong contender for Game of the Year.

Now despite having even been out for a month, Sony revealed that Astro Bot is already getting a DLC.

Better yet, it will be completely free.

Coming later this year, the game will welcome some add-on content as well as five new levels to play, brand new cameos from much-loved PS IPs and even a speedrun mode.

As you can imagine, the excitement was palpable and fans took to r/PS5 to share their thoughts on the upcoming content.

“Anything Astro Bot just puts me in a better mood. I love that little robot,” one user shared.

Another said: “This game is already a masterpiece and they’re adding on more content that’s FREE?! Hell yeah!”

The brand-new DLC trailer also revealed that characters such as Eve from Stellar Blade and a Helldiver from, well, Helldivers 2 would be making an appearance.

“An Eve-Bot? Sweet!” Another user enthused.

I can't wait to test myself in those extra levels, they seem like challenging fun levels.”

Although there is not yet a release date for the Astro Bot DLC, it is no denying that it will be jumped on by millions of fans.
