PlayStation players can take advantage of a free-to-play weekend this week, allowing more people than ever to play the latest titles online.
For this weekend, and this weekend only until PlayStation decides to do it again, online multiplayer will be free for all, which means you can play the new Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion with plenty of jolly cooperators, and not spend a penny.

Previously you’d need to be subscribed to PlayStation Plus to access online play, but only the Essential tier, which is included in higher tiers anyway.

Of course the one that makes the most sense to get is PlayStation Plus Extra, which grants you access to that sweet, sweet library of games at no additional cost.
However this weekend you won’t need any of that, as even if you haven’t got a subscription to PlayStation Plus Essential you’ll be able to play every multiplayer game on the platform for free, aside from titles like Fortnite which are free anyway.
Call Of Duty, The Finals, GTA V: Online, you name it and you’ll be able to play it, either with randoms or with your friends in party chat, which just got a sweet new upgrade with Discord integration.
Unfortunately you won’t have long to enjoy it, as it’ll only be available for a 24 hour period, lasting from 22 June to 23 June, then you’ll need a subscription membership to carry on your multiplayer shenanigans.

Fear not though, as there are plenty of discounts on PlayStation Plus throughout the year, especially over the Summer-period when people are more likely to have free time for console play sessions.
The free-to-play weekend kicks off this Saturday, 22 June, so don’t miss out if you’re just itching for some multiplayer mayhem.
