Marvel's Spider-Man 2 free update leaves fans divided

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 free update leaves fans divided

It's just not getting the Spidey senses tingling

The PlayStation 5 Pro doesn’t officially release until 7 November, but various studios are already offering glimpses at what their games will look like running on the kit.

That includes Insomniac Games which has dropped a brand new trailer showcasing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s PlayStation 5 Pro upgrade.

It’s a game that’s attracted some heat in recent weeks.

Finally, it was announced that a PC port is on the way, but that news was overshadowed by the confirmation that no DLC is planned.

It’s clear from playing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s side quests that both Carnage and Chameleon were likely to appear in any potential expansions, possibly alongside the idea of the Spider-Verse.

Insomniac’s major leak last year then confirmed as much, with three DLC follow-ups coming to light.

As feared though, it appears that they’ve been cancelled most likely as a result of said leak.

It’s a great shame but we can only hope the ideas are used in the next mainline game.

In the meantime, those nabbing a PlayStation 5 Pro will be able to enjoy a new and improved Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but the footage released so far hasn’t exactly dazzled fans.

Take a look at the PlayStation 5 Pro enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.

The console’s ray tracing is two to three times as fast, so devs have promised that reflective surfaces - from puddles to glass skyscrapers - will be far more dazzling this time around.

In general, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will run at a much greater fidelity which, in a game like this, will particularly add welcomed detail as players look towards the horizon while they swing across New York City.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is essentially bridging the gap between performance and fidelity modes, offering the benefits of both.

The question is though, is such a subtle upgrade worth £700? Many Spidey fans think not.

“PlayStation 5 puddles and shiny reflections edition,” wrote one Reddit user.

“Yeah. I already played that game. Show us new games,” added Deepcookiz.

“Honestly I struggle to see much of a difference even watching on 4K TV,” commented Shadiezz2018.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is certainly a console that offers a subtle upgrade.

Impressive? Yes, but subtle - and it doesn't come with a subtle price tag, so winning the masses over could be an uphill battle.
